Inspiration

Welcome to my art and portfolio creations!

I love the environment!

I love the environment so that all of my creations are carefully shaped using jewellery beeswax but also with using natural beeswax! The result of this endeavour enables me to work on the surface of an artefact that it can achieve a very unique design but also impression. The most important feature in my work is that all of my works are not produced through an already existing shape. Every artefact remains unique. The overall philosophy in my work is to produce jewellery that carries a specific meaning and significance and can withstand on its own as a piece of art.

Methods and Materials

Most of Hovik’s jewels are made out of silver. However, he is also producing artefacts made out of gold. The designs are initially produced using beeswax and they are silver liquidation techniques to provide the relevant form and design.

Unique Features

What is in a jewel?

The manufacturing of jewellery is an ‘art’ rather than a ‘science’.

It requires considerable creativity and an aptitude for innovation.

There is need to have a deep love for that which can only be conveyed through art. This is the only way to ensure that the jewels are able to withstand in time and remain symbols of inspiration and love.

Customised Art Techniques

It is reported that customers are more open to experimenting, rather than sticking to traditional options, and as a result, the jewellery industry has adapted itself to offer them the same. Custom, hand-made jewellery has been rapidly gaining in popularity, and within the next year, is expected to dominate the entire industry. Source

Jewellery cannot have any particular value unless it conveys meaning to the person wearing it.

In my personal work jewellery should not be standardised but rather tailored as a unique micro-sculpture. It is only when the artist is able to capture this higher sentimental value that the artefact gains significance. My working on the various designed are not formed through already existing moulded forms. Instead, they remain unique because I work on them in a formless way creating the design and image that needs to be represented rather than the format which is pre-defined.

Creativity and Inspiration

A primary source of inspiration and creativity has always been the wide range of representations found in the ancient world. As someone that comes from afar having had my grand-parents travelling to Greece because of the Armenian Genocide I am inspired by the creative struggle and the human passion. My goals is to create artefacts that have the capacity to engage into dialogue with their owners.

The sentiment needs to be present in the passing of time. The symbolism needs to convey its power at all times. This can only be done if there is sufficient focus on detail. The craftsman needs to appreciate the different ways of representation and capture that which carries significance and meaning over time. I enjoy the metaphorical sentiments of movement. Hence, my desire is to produce artefacts that carry the capacity to convey deep seated sentiments that cannot be equally represented through the standardised methods of production that currently dominate our society.
